About this Course

Level 2 focuses on basic English reading and writing skills for beginning English learners. Topics covered include writing simple paragraphs. Level 3 focuses on basic English reading and writing skills for beginning English learners. Topics covered include writing simple paragraphs.

Level 2 Course Objectives

• 2.RW.1 Identify and produce correct formatting and components of simple paragraphs (title, topic sentence, details and examples in supporting sentences, and concluding sentence).

• 2.RW.2 Identify topics and controlling ideas in topic sentences.

• 2.RW.3 List steps of the writing process (prewrite, write, revise, and edit) in order.

• 2.RW.4 Respond to questions about short paragraphs.

• 2.RW.5 Produce descriptive and process paragraphs with correct formatting and paragraph components with logical order and appropriate transitions.


Level 2 Integrated Objectives

• 2.LS.1 Produce and respond to information questions.

• 2.LS.2 Organize information presented orally into logical order.

• 2.LS.3 Deliver a short presentation describing a simple process and/or a routine.

• 2.G.1 Identify and produce count and non-count nouns and produce appropriate articles.

• 2.G.2 Produce measurement words within simple sentences (some, a little, much, many, and a lot of).

• 2.G.3 Identify and produce possessive adjectives within a sentence.

• 2.G.4 Identify simple past and past progressive verbs in affirmative and negative statements and questions.

• 2.G.5 Produce sentences and respond to questions with present progressive verbs.


Level 3 Course Objectives

  • 3.RW.1 Produce writing plans using graphic organizers.
  • 3.RW.2 Identify facts and opinions within a paragraph.
  • 3.RW.3 Identify main ideas and distinguish from supporting details in short passages.
  • 3.RW.4 Produce descriptive and opinion paragraphs that include topic sentences, detailed supporting sentences, effective transitions, concluding sentences, and proper punctuation and capitalization.

 

Level 3 Integrated Objectives

  • 3.LS.1 Identify and verbally produce statements of fact and opinion.
  • 3.LS.2 Take notes from a variety of sources using various graphic organizers.
  • 3.LS.3 Deliver a planned presentation on class topics.
  • 3.LS.4 Deliver an impromptu presentation on class topics.
  • 3.G.1 Produce affirmative and negative simple statements and questions with simple past verbs.
  • 3.G.2 Produce past time clauses in sentences (before, after, as soon as, while, and when).
  • 3.G.3 Produce affirmative and negative simple sentences and questions with past progressive verbs.
  • 3.G.4 Produce simple sentences and respond to questions with can, could, be able to, and know how to.
  • 3.G.5 Produce compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, and so).
